Description

3 sessions

Cost:  $45

Skill level:  Intermediate

Session 1 project:  small double knit bag

Session 2 project:  Coaster/placemat/table runner/blanket

Double knitting is pure magic -- the image created on the front of the fabric will appear in reverse image on the back.  Or, you can work flat to create circular knitting.  How cool is that?

Project

In this class, you will make a small bag AND a reversible coaster, scarf, or placemat.  Keep going and it could be a table runner, a baby blanket, or a full sized afghan!

Materials

  • Yarn for small bag -- 50 grams of sport, dk or worsted weight yarn (6, 5.5 or 5 stitches to the inch).  I used ColorJoy Cushy Colorsport.
  • Yarn for coaster or placemat -- 50 grams (coaster) or 150 grams (scarf or placemat) yarn in main color (MC), and 50 grams (coaster) or 150 grams (scarf or placemat) yarn in contrasting color (CC).  Use sport, dk or worsted weight yarn, but make sure both colors are the same weight.  I used 2 colors of Tahki Cotton Classic for one sample, and 2 colors of Louet Euroflax Linen for another sample.
  • Needles – double pointed needles and 24" (approximately) circular needle in size appropriate for yarn chosen, but bring everything you have in case you need to adjust the needle size in order to get the desired fabric.  You may want a slightly larger needle for a slightly drapier fabric.  I used size 5 U.S. for both samples.
