Class List

Click on the class title for a more detailed description, including schedule information and prices.

A Well Executed Sleeve (workshop) Learn how to design an armhole to fit YOUR body, then pick up and knit a perfect set-in sleeve from the top down -- no unsightly seams!  Bonus:  Use short rows to shape your sweater shoulders neatly, and to avoid those nasty stairsteps!

Basic Socks – What can I say about sock knitting?  It’s easy, it’s fun, and it’s addicting!  In this class, you will learn how to knit a very basic pair of socks, custom fit to your (or a lucky other’s) feet.

Beginning Finishing – This is a VERY basic finishing class, designed to make you more comfortable with the most basic finishing techniques necessary in order to make your knitted pieces come together into a beautiful finished product.  I’ve had more than one student tell me that after taking this class, they wanted to take apart everything they had ever knitted and put it back together using the techniques they learned!  In this class, you will knit a baby or child’s sweater (for once, we’re not going to be too concerned with gauge, so who knows how big the sweater will be?).

Continental Knitting – Knitting Continental style involves holding the yarn in your left hand and “picking” it, as opposed to holding the yarn in your right hand and “throwing” it (English style).  Since both hands are used more equally, it’s easier on your hands, wrists and shoulders.  Knit/purl combinations can be worked more easily.  Once you know how to knit using both English and Continental methods, you are ready to tackle one of those complicated-looking Fair Isle projects!  If you’re interested in knitting more comfortably or with greater speed, this class is for you!  In this class, you will knit a winter hat using the Continental technique.

Cut and Paste (workshop) Does the very thought of Kitchener Stitch make you queasy?  Get over it!  Practice grafting a variety of stitch patterns, then apply what you've learned by working a simple but elegant hem, sewing a flawless seam, and discovering ways to modify your knitting without tearing the whole thing out.  Sleeves too long?  Wish you'd started with garter stitch instead of ribbing?  Hate the colors in that band of Fair Isle?  Cut out the bad, and graft in the good.

Easy Beginner Scarves New to knitting, or just looking for some quick and simple scarves to knit?  Choose from half a dozen easy (and free!) patterns and learn a few basic skills along the way.

Easy Beginner Hats – Ready for more?  Start with a circular needle and finish on double points while trying out a few stylish hat patterns.

Easy Beginner Mittens – Up for a challenge?  Cast on with a set of double pointed needles and knit up a quick pair of toasty mittens.

Entrelac Design  If you thought Introduction to Entrelac was fun, wait until you start designing your own hat/sweater/bag/vest/whatever using this beautiful and addictive technique.

Fair Isle Sweater – Fair Isle sweater bodies are knit in the round, as tubes.  Armholes, necklines, and cardigan fronts are “steeked”, which means that they are prepared in some way and then cut open (with scissors!).  There are a variety of different methods used to steek Fair Isle sweaters, most of which will be discussed and demonstrated.  In this class, you will knit a Fair Isle Sweater.

Introduction to Aran (Cable) Knitting – Cables aren't as difficult as they look.  Learn to knit a variety of cables (with or without a cable needle) while making a small, lined handbag.

Introduction to Double Knitting – Double knitting is pure magic – the image created on the front of the fabric will appear in reverse image on the back.  How cool is that?  The project will be a reversible placemat, with the option to keep going and make it a table runner, baby blanket, or full sized afghan.

Introduction to Entrelac Entrelac is a very cool knitting technique that resembles a basketweave pattern.  In this introductory class, you will knit a felted Entrelac knitting bag.

Introduction to Fair Isle – The Fair Isle technique has been around for centuries.  Traditionally, it involves knitting in the round and using charted patterns, while carrying a different color of yarn in each hand.  In this introductory class, you will knit a Fair Isle cover for an 18-20” square pillow.

Introduction to Intarsia Intarsia can also be called "picture knitting".  This technique can be used to make Christmas stockings, holiday sweaters, or a cute little tic-tac-toe toddler's vest!

Knitter's Choice If you've reached a sticky point in one of your knitting projects, or if you'd like some hand-holding for every step along the way, you'll be interested in my newest offering.  You can bring any project you want for as many sessions as you want.  Pick any new project or new technique you've been wanting to learn, or bring that UFO (Un-Finished Object) out of the closet so we can turn it into a Finished Object!

Knitting Basics (formerly called "Beginning Knitting") – If you can knit and purl but have wondered about things like "why does ribbing pull in?" and "what are those yarn labels trying to tell me?", then this is the class for you.   In this class, you will knit a pillow cover for an 18-20” square pillow.

Preventing/Fixing Mistakes Have you ever wished you could go to a knitting class that just dealt with fixing mistakes?  Well, this is the one you've been waiting for.

Sweater Design – This is a great class for knitters who are ready to design their own sweaters or to tweak existing patterns.  In this class, you will learn to knit a custom fit, totally seamless, scoop- or v-necked sweater with set-in sleeves.

Toe Up Socks You may have conquered knitting socks from the cuff down to the toe (or maybe you haven't yet!), but have you tried knitting them from the toe up?  While knitting socks in a new direction, you can try the newly popular techniques of knitting small circumferences on either one or two long circular needles.  In this class, you will learn how to knit a very simple pair of socks from the toe up.
