Hi!  I'm Sarah Peasley, Handknitter.  Welcome to my website!

My spell check program tells me that handknitter isn't a word (of course, it tells me that stockinette stitch doesn't exist, either.  Silly spell check program!).  "Hand knitter" is the preferred phrase, but I don't like it.  It sounds more like a verb -- like something one does.  "Handknitter", the single word, is more like a noun -- something one simply is.  It's what I am.  I don't just knit by hand.  I am a handknitter.

I love to knit, and I love to help people enjoy their knitting.  I offer many interesting, tip-filled classes involving useful projects that are both challenging and doable.  I've been rewarded with classes filled with eager, talented students.  Check out the Gallery to see your work on display!

I'm spending January at home, working on class development and knitting samples, samples and more samples, but I've got a full slate of classes on my Calendar for the winter and spring, including some brand spanking new ones:

• A Well Executed Sleeve:  Please help me prepare for a new class I'll be teaching at Stitches West in late February.  This 3 hour Saturday workshop pulls specific material from my Sweater Design class, focusing on armhole and shoulder shaping, and on knitting a set-in sleeve from the top down.

• Cut and Paste:  Another trial run for a new Stitches class.  In this 3 hour Sunday workshop, you'll practice and learn applications for kitchener stitch (grafting), and learn how to modify your knitting with a deep breath and some sharp scissors.

• Introduction to Double Knitting:  I'm still working on the sample for this new class, and I still have to decide whether it will be three or four weeks long.  Don't worry -- I'll have everything figured out before the first session!  If you've ever wished you could make a two-color scarf or afghan that is beautiful on both sides, this is the class for you.

• Double Knitting Workshop:  I'll be teaching a mini version of the Introduction to Double Knitting class at the Mid-Michigan Knitter's Guild's retreat at the Kellogg Biological Station the second weekend in February.

I've had to make a lot of scheduling changes as I try to accommodate some conflicts with my personal calendar:

• Knitter's Choice:  I need to free up my Thursday mornings and afternoons for a while, so Knitter's Choice will be moving to the first Wednesday of each month.  Same times (1:30-3:30 p.m and 6:30-8:30 p.m.), same location (my dining room table), just a different day. 

• Woven Art:  All of my Woven Art classes will now be held on Tuesdays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.  Slightly different time (bring your lunch!), same wonderful location.

As always, I've tried to accommodate all of the requests I've received for classes (subject matter, days/times, and locations).  I think I've got all of my most recent requests covered. 

For example, as the result of YOUR requests, you'll find:

• Easy Beginner Scarves, Easy Beginner Hats, and Easy Beginner Mittens in a variety of locations.  If you want to learn to knit, and you want me to be the one to teach you, there are numerous choices here for you!  Please also consider these classes if you want to get a head start on holiday knitting for next year, or for making items to donate to your favorite charity.  Warm hands and heads are always in demand somewhere in the world!

• Continental Knitting, Introduction to Fair Isle, and Fair Isle Sweater at The Yarn Garden in Charlotte on Friday evenings.  This series of classes will help you to develop your skills and your confidence so you can tackle a beautiful Fair Isle sweater of your choice.

• Basic Socks and Toe Up Socks:  I've got you (and your feet) covered in either direction!
